# Referral scheme for my public events
As a facilitator and organizer, the value of the work I do is very hard to articulate if you haven't experienced it for yourself.
Time and again, experience has taught me that by far the most meaningful way to enrol new participants is through word-of-mouth referrals from past participants.
Most people who attend an event with anything like "grief" in the title do so because someone they know and trust told them something about it.
This is usually very reciprocal.
However, in an effort to align my [[My approach to money|money practices]] with forms of reciprocal exchange, I've developed a simple pay-it-forward scheme for folks who invite someone who attends one of my events:
## How "pay-it-forward" works:
1. Because you care and you had a meaningful experience, you recommend someone to attend a grief event.
2. When they sign up:
1. I set asides a portion of your fees[^1] into my fund for "community-supported" tier to help someone attend who might otherwise be unable to
2. both of you receive a small credit to your next event as a thank-you.[^2]
This happens for every person you invite who joins an event. You could be funding someone's—or several people's—ability to join this kind of work.
[^1]: Because half-day and weekend-length events have different price-points and I offer several pricing tiers, the exact amount varies. It's 5-10%.
[^2]: A few details:
- For each referral, approximately 10% of your original ticket price goes to the community-supported fund, and both you and the person you invited receive a small credit (~5-10%) toward a future event.
- Credits are valid for 12 months from the date they're earned.
- To refer someone, just have them mention your name when they register. That's it.
